  Overview

The CDCS® is an international professional qualification that is recognised worldwide as a benchmark of competence in documentary credits. It enables documentary credit practitioners to demonstrate practical knowledge and understanding of the complex issues associated with documentary credit practice.
Registration is now closed. Registration for the April 2014 examination will open on 1 October 2013.

Facts at a glance

  • Registration costs for CDCS® can be found on the registration form (an international booking fee, may also be added). The cost includes a printed study text (also available online via the my ifslearning website), access to a student handbook and sample examination questions.   • There are no entry requirements for CDCS® but it is recommended that you have a minimum of three years’ documentary credit or related experience

Units


CDCS® consists of two mandatory units:

Unit 1 - Principles of Documentary Credit Transactions

Unit one is designed to enable documentary credit specialists to understand documentary credits, the products, parties, processes and rules that underpin documentary credit transactions.

Unit 2 - Manage the Delivery of Documentary Credit Transactions

Unit two is designed to demonstrate the ability of documentary credit specialists to manage documentary credit transactions and identify irregularities, by applying knowledge of processes, ICC rules and trade terms.

 

Assessment

Assessment for CDCS® consists of a two hour 30 minute multiple choice examination, designed to test your knowledge and its application to practical situations.

Welcome to the BAFT-IFSA sponsored web site for the 2013 CDCS examination.  Candidates in the United States, Canada and Latin America will take the examination this year electronically during a testing window from April 12 through April 15.

1.  CDCS Examination

BAFT-IFSA is pleased to announce CDCS Candidates will be permitted to use personal or office desktop computers which have installed and registered ExamSoft’s SofTest™ software for the CDCS Practice Test.  The exam will be administered using ExamSoft’s FlexSite Internet-based exam delivery option and is being offered to all Candidates who sign up and complete registration of SofTest.

Registered candidates with BAFT-IFSA will take the examination at bank training sites or other locations with an Internet connection.  Other arrangements can be made, if required; contact Kristi Long, BAFT-IFSA CDCS manager at klong@baft-ifsa.com.

The CDCS Practice Test will be posted by March 21, 2013.  You can take this test as often as you wish to become familiar with the format of the examination on your personal PC or laptop.  This is a full version of the actual test and will help you become familiar with the examination format.

Preparation for the examination remains the same – candidates should study (1) the study guide, The Guide to Documentary Credits, third edition and (2) take the sample test available electronically after March 21, 2012.

The 2013 examination has a total of 120 questions based on the CDCS Content Outline.

Section A - 83 multiple-choice questions

Section B - 22 multiple-choice questions on a selection of case studies, simulations and analysis questions.  This section requires you to demonstrate your skills in information gathering, interpretation and decision-making.


CANDIDATES MUST PASS SECTION B IN ORDER TO PASS THE EXAMINATION.

2.  What Should I do Prior to Exam Day?

    Download SofTest.
    Register SofTest by the BAFT-IFSA deadline.
    Ensure: (1) that your PC meets the specifications listed above, (2) that there is plenty of free hard drive space, (3) that your PC is virus free, and (4) that your PC is free of disk errors by running SCANDISK (click Start Button, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Scandisk or Disk Cleanup).
    Once you have installed and registered SofTest, familiarize yourself with the software by taking the Mock Exam and utilizing the Practice Exam.
    If your are using your own laptop computer locate your A/C – battery power indicator light to determine which light indicates you are running on A/C power (i.e. power from a wall outlet).
    If your are using your own laptop computer ensure that your battery has at least 20 minutes of charge in it prior to the exam in the event there is a temporary power outage.
    If you encounter issues in your use of SofTest, visit http://support.examsoft.com
    If you are using your own laptop computer bring your power cord and battery (in the event of power loss).  If you normally use an external keyboard and mouse you may bring those as well.
    Arrive to the exam room at least 15 minutes early, plug your computer into a power outlet, turn on the computer and follow the instructions provided.
    Do not uninstall SofTest until you receive your exam scores.
    Immediately before SofTest launches the exam, you will be provided a warning screen with RED STOP SIGNS indicating that you should not begin the exam until instructed to do so.  Heed this warning.
    Exams will not be delayed or suspended due to computer problems.
    DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RESOLVE COMPUTER ISSUES ON YOUR OWN.  ASK FOR THE ASSISTANCE OF A PROCTOR IMMEDIATELY.

What is SofTest™?

SofTest is a high stakes assessment program developed and licensed by ExamSoft that enables candidates to securely take examinations downloaded to their computer by blocking access to files, programs and the Internet during an exam.

What is FlexSite?

FlexSiteis ExamSoft’s Internet-based exam delivery option. Using SofTest, you will download your exam on or prior to exam day and upload your answer after the exam via the Internet. You WILL NOT require Internet connectivity during your exam. You WILL require Internet connectivity to download your exam and upload your answers.

How Do I Download an Exam and Upload an Answer?

How will I know my Answer has been uploaded?

A visual ‘progress status’ (blue bar) is displayed as the upload takes place. When the upload is complete, a 'Congratulations' message is displayed.  An email confirmation is then sent to the email address provided when you registered.  

What if there is no Internet Connectivity at my Test Site?

If you are using a laptop computer it is possible to make arrangements to download the exam file prior to the exam session and to upload your answer after the exam session at a location where there is Internet connectivity.  Contact BAFT-IFSA for more information.

How reliable is SofTest?

Over 4 million exams have been successfully administered using SofTest. SofTest is used by 38 State Supreme Courts for delivery of the Bar and Legal Specialization exams and at over 160 colleges and universities. SofTest has several safety features to ensure that answers entered are not lost.


How Do I Enroll?

If you wish to take your exam on computer you must first advise BAFT-IFSA. BAFT-IFSA will then email you instructions on how to register along with a user ID# and Password. Once you have received this information you may register at www.examsoft.com/IFSA.   

How Do I Register?
To register, log in to the Exam Taker section of the BAFT-IFSA Custom Home Page at www.examsoft.com/IFSA and do the following:

Step 1: Log In– Log in using the Candidate ID# and Password emailed to you by BAFT-IFSA

Step 2: Download and Install SofTest–Downloading SofTest takes minutes on high-speed Internet connections and may take up to 20 minutes or more on slower dial-up connections. Once downloaded, following the Installation Wizard takes just a few minutes.

Step 3: Register SofTest –You will be provided instructions on how to register SofTest on screen. Once registered, you will be notified on-screen that you have completed the process and you will also receive a confirmation email.  If you have any questions or issues with registration, go to http://support.examsoft.com.

How do I know SofTest has been properly installed and registered?

After registering SofTest, you will receive a registration confirmation email from Support@examsoft.com. This registration number along with the registration date will be recorded for BAFT-IFSA record keeping.  Additionally, when SofTest is launched, the Start Window will indicate that your “Registration” is “Complete”.

Can I practice using SofTest before the exam?

Yes.  We STRONGLY urge you to take the Practice Test.

Internet Delivered Practice Exam– An Internet Delivered Practice Test is available to familiarize you with how you will access and return exams on exam day.  Internet connectivity is only required to download the exam file and upload the answer file.  NO Internet connectivity is required while taking the exam. Instructions for downloading this Mock Exam, taking it and uploading the answer file may be found in our Candidate Information Guide.

SofTest can be used on virtually any modern computer (i.e. purchased within the last 3-4 years). For specific system requirements, please click on "Minimum System Requirements" above.
